Additional Information: | The Weyenberg Library is a two-story red brick building executed in the Classical Revival style. It has a combination hip and gable roof, a wide frieze under the roof eaves, multiple-pane double-hung sash windows decorated with flat arches and keystones, and a large double-door entry that is topped with a large and impressive fanlight. A projecting gable-roofed portico extends off the front of the building. It has a full pediment, dentils, and is supported by four colossal Corinthain columns The interior is decorated with simple Classical details. Even though this building was constructed in 1971, it is a fine example of the Classical Revival style buildings that were constructed during the early twentieth century. It could very easily be mistaken for a Classical Revival building of the early twentieth. Unlike other modern neo-colonial or neo-classical buildings of the post World War II era, this library has the exuberance of classical detail not seen in modern buildings. This building was constrructed as a library for Mequon residents in 1971. It was funded by Mrs. Frank L. Weyenberg in honor of her husband, a local industrialist. A major addition was made around 1991 during which time the building was renovated entirely. (G). MONUMENTAL PEDIMENTED PORTICO W/FLUTED CORINTHIAN COLUMNS.
