Additional Information: | 2023: This is a two-story Italianate style commercial building constructed circa 1868. The building is constructed of cream brick and features a cast stone belt course delineating the first and second stories as well as segmental arch window crowns; however, the characteristic corbelled cornice has been removed and the parapet reconstructed as a broad expanse devoid of ornament, which is uncharacteristic of the style. The storefront retains the cast iron columns but has otherwise been altered by the removal of the central recessed entrance, replacement windows that are reduced in size, and infill of the original transoms with wood panels. Since 2005, the earlier, incompatible replacement windows in the second story windows have been replaced with compatible two-over-two metal sash segmental arch windows that are similar in size, shape, depth, and profile. 2005-ALTERED STOREFRONT AND NEW WINDOWS. 1980-#607-611 are part of a two story Italianate commercial structure dating from the 1870's. There is nothing especially unique about it but it adds to the character of the district. #611 was demolished during the summer of 1981. In addition, the storefront of #609 was remodeled at that time. |
