Additional Information: | A TWO STORY BUILDING WITH A RECTANGULAR SHAPED PLAN CONFIGURATION AND A CUT STONE FOUNDATION, WAS BUILT IN C. 1859. IT FEATURES A VARIETY OF WALL MATERIALS, INCLUDING BRICK, STONE, CONCRETE BLOCK, CONCRETE, AND BOARD. BRICK, WOOD STONE AND METAL MADE UP THE TRIM. 516-518 W. WATER STREET IS IN POOR CONDITION. THIS STRUCTURE, KNOWN HISTORICALLY AS THE TESKE BROS. BUILDING, CURRENTLY HOUSES A USED FURNITURE STORE. The Princeton Republic followed the construction of the building in 1872-1873, including the following: Princeton Republic, Jan. 6, 1872 (Vol. V, No. 48) Page 1 - “The new block of the Teske Brothers is to be 90 or 100 feet long, two stories high. The lower room they will use as a sales room, and the upper story for their extensive boot and shoe manufactory.” Princeton Republic, May 4, 1872 (Vol. VI, No. 13) Page 1 – “The building next door west of Luce’s block is to be moved next week we understand in order to make room for the new building which Teske Brothers propose to erect.” Princeton Republic, May 11, 1872 (Vol. VI, No. 14) Page 1 – “The two-story wooden building on Water Street, belonging to the Teske Brothers, has been moved off the lot, preparatory to commencing their new stock and brick block. This new building is to be finished in front like the Thiel and Luce block, but will be one hundred feet long, making the largest business room in the village.” Princeton Republic, Aug. 10, 1872 (Vol. VI, No. 27) “The brick front of Teske Bros.’ block is completed and is an addition to the beauty of Water Street.” Princeton Republic, Jan. 18, 1873 (Vol. VI, No. 50) “Teske brothers have moved their goods into their fine new store.” THE F IN THE PHOTO CODE AND THE MAP CODE STANDS FOR FCS. |
