Additional Information:DESIGNED IN THE COMMERCIAL VERNACULAR STYLE, THIS TWO STORY RETAIL BUILDING WAS CONSTRUCTED IN 1861. IT FEATURES A RECTANGULAR SHAPED PLAN CONFIGURATION, A STONE FOUNDATION, A STONE EXTERIOR, A STONE TRIM AND A FLAT ROOF. PROJECTING FORWARD ON THE FACADE IS A CORBELED STONE CORNICE, UNDERNEATH WHICH IS A STONE STRING COURSE. THIS BUILDING WAS CONSTRUCTED AT THE SAME TIME AS THE ADJACENT AND RELATED BUILDING TO THE EAST. (SEE BIB. REF. C). THIS ADJACENT STRUCTURE, LOCATED AT 246 HIGH STREET (MAP CODE 43/11), IS KNOWN AS THE R. GOLDSWOTHY BUILDING. 248 HIGH STREET IS IN GOOD CONDITION.

KNOWN HISTORICALLY AS THE JAMES PASCOE BUILDING AND AS THE GALE'S CASH GROCERY, THIS BUILDING (248 HIGH STREET) HOUSED VARIOUS COMMERCIAL VENTURES FROM 1861 TO 1929. (SEE BIB. REF. A, B). SOME OF THESE VENTURES INCULDED A GROCERY IN 1884, A SALOON IN 1894, A VARIETY STORE IN 1917, AND THE C. E. GALE CROCKERY IN 1924.

2012- "Built by James Pascoe, a miner from Cornwall. Pascoe and his business partner, Edward Coad, who bought the lot from the government in 1837. Pascoe's residence was on this site before he built this stone commercial building.

Bob Neal and Edgar Hellum, founders of Pendarvis, owned this building from 1970 to 1983.

This building also housed a saloon; variety store; Theron Beers Leather & Harness Shop; Kathleen's Beauty Shop; a branch of a Dodgeville bank; Mineral Point Abstract & Title; Iowa Co. Abstract & Title; Iowa Co. Abstract & Title; and Koehler Law Office."
