Additional Information: | DESCRIPTION This two and one-half story Queen Anne style house has a steeply-pitched gable roof a two-story shallow bay, and a large projecting gable on the front facade. The gable has a small window with a cornive lintel and decorative wood shingles. The plain frieze extends under roof eaves, Under the projecting oediments the eaves are trimmed with decorative rafter ends. Most of the window openings are single-light double-hung sashes, but there are several larger and smaller decorative windows on the facades. The two-story front porch features round columns and a simple wooden balustrade both on the first and second story. Also on the property is a large gambrel-roofed barn. It has board siding and two steeply pitched gable-roofed dormers propjecting from the roof. Two concrete silos sit at the barn's end. ARCHITECTURAL/ENGINEERING SIGNIFICANCE The barn has some interest because of its sides and its projecting dormers, a commonly seen barn detail in Mequon. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND This house was owned by Frank Rothe between 1885 and 1931 and by Ernest Rothe between 1948 and 1966. This property was previously surveyed in 1990 and was then owned by Lynn Schmitt and was mapped as 28/20 on BASE MAP WEST. See also 2004 comments for associated record #71512. |
