HISTORIC BACKGROUND
This house and agricultural outbuildings were owned by Chs. Klug between 1857 and 1870. It was then owned by Hans and then Jahn Klug between 1878 and 1915. [a,b] Some of the agricultural buildings may date back to Karl Klug who owned the property earlier than 1857. Karl Klug was a relative of August Radue's wife and bought his land from Radue. Radue, along with the Klug family, were some of the earliest of the Freistadt settlers. the Freistadt settlers were a group of the german Lutherans who came from northern Germany for religious freedom. They settled in western Mequon around the village of Freistadt. |
