NOTES
Additional Information:DESCRIPTION
This one and one-half story gable ell house has a steeply-pitched intersecting gable roof, aluminum siding, and a small single-pane double-hung sash windows. The ell porch is enclosed. There is also a barn and machine shed on the property.

ARCHITECTURAL/ENGINEERING SIGNIFICANCE
The form and massing of this house, along with the fact that it was probably by early German immigrants, suggest that this house may have a log or half-timber frame structural system. Futher investigation should be undertaken to see if this is the case. If so, this house could be significant for its method of construction.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
This house was owned by Fred Wendt in 1857 [b] and by both Gottfried, then August Wendt between 1862 and 1924. [a,b] Joachim Friedrich Wendt and his wife Dorthea, and there children came to Mequon from northern Germany in 1841. They were part of the freistadt settlement, a group of German Lutherans who came to this country for religious freedom. The age of this house suggest that it could of been home of Joachim Wendt's family. However, the older house at 12222 W. Freistadt Rd. might also been their first home since Wendt owned the property that both buildings now sit on. Then this property was owned by August Wendt, one of Gottfried sons. Samuel, another son, owned the property at 12222 W. Freistadt Rd. [f, p. 49]

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE
This house does have some historic interest as the home of some Freistadt German settlers.
