NOTES
Additional Information:DESCRIPTION
This two story gable ell house has a steeply-pitched gable roof, clapboard siding, and the ell porch is enclosed. Windows are single-light or two-over-two light double hung sashes topped with cornice lintels. Also on the property is a shed that might have been an older home on the property. It is a one-and-one half story gable ell building that has board and batten siding, small window openings, and large sliding doors. There is also a gable-roofed barn on the property that has board siding, large sliding doors, and no windows.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
This house was owned by Gottfried Wendt in 1862 [b] and by Samuel Wendt between 1887 and 1931. [a,b] Gottfried Wendt's mother and father, Joachim Friedrich Wendt and his wife Dorthea, and there children came to Mequon from northern Germany in 1841. They were part of the freistadt settlement, a group of German Lutherans who came to this country for religious freedom. Maps and tax rolls for this property do not show any earlier owners than Gottfried Wendt and his ownership cooresponds to the time this house was built. However, it appears to be an older house behind the newer house. This house could of been the home of Joachim Wendt, Gottfried's father. See also 12012 W. Freistadt for more information on the Wendts. Samule Wendt was the son of Gottfried Wendt.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE
This house does have some historic interest as the home of some Freistadt German settlers.
