Additional Information: | DESCRIPTION This two-story gable ell house has features from the Queen Anne style. It has a steeply-pitched hip and gable roof, asbestos siding, and wood trim. The windows are largely single-pane double-hung sashes. Some of the windows are large with single panes. An ell porch covers the front entrance. It has a flat, roof, square and round post, and a plain balustrade. May 2002-Rising from a stone foundation, this circa 1890s, two and one half story, gabled ell farmhouse with Queen Anne attributes is sheathed with asbestos siding. The asphalt shingled roof is encircled by a plain, wooden cornice with returns. The southeast ell juncture is fitted with a hip roof block and an open porch whose balcony roof is supported by square posts. A square post balustrade is fitted on the first level while the second story has no railing. Each gable exhibits carved, ornamental bargeboards topped with a finial. Fenestration on the first story consists primarily of one over one double hung sashes while the upper level carries two over two examples. Several picture windows topped with transoms are evident. The outbuildings of this former farmstead are comprised of two small, wooden sheds; a chicken coop and a metal garden shed; all of which are dilapidated. The earliest available plat map indicates that Helene Rau owned a forty acre parcel at this location as early as 1860. By 1892, the property was owned by L. Rau. Observation suggests that the house was constructed in the circa 1890s. In 1915, the farmstead was owned by Henry Kaul, who passed it on to R. Gloss by 1921. John Last owned the tract by 1939 and he maintained it at least into the late 1940s. Research revealed no information on any of these former owners. 2019: This property was removed sometime prior to 2012. |
