NOTES
Additional Information:Congregation founded 1889. Stained glass windows reportedly imported from Germany. German language services until 1947.

"The history of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran congregation begins in the year 1888. On that year Pastor Richard Siegler of Barre Mills began to gather the German speaking residents of the Bangor area into a congregation. The first service was held on December 9, 1888, in the Baptist Church, and the participation in that service to encourage the group to continue to have services at regular intervals thereafter. The congregation was organized and incorporated on January 26, 1890, as St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

After services had been conducted in the Baptist Church for two years, the old school west of the Dutch Creek and property on which the school was located, was leased to the young congregation.

When the congregation took possession of it's new church, it was necessary for them to install benches, a chancel, sacristy and altar. On December 7, 1890, the new church was dedicated with two services, German in the morning and English in the afternoon. Pastor Rich Siegler preached at both services. The first resident pastor, the Rev. Theodore Hartwig, was installed in September 1895.

On November 22, 1908, a decision was made to purchase the three lots on which the present church and parsonage are located. The purchase price was $1,000. The church cost $11,000 to make. Many of the the furnishings were donated including the stained glass windows from Germany. The church was dedicated on October 10, 1909.

The Lutheran Parochial School started in 1909 by Pastor C. W. Siegler in the church basement which he taught for five years. In September 1914 it hired its first full-time teacher, Miss Josephine Vick. In 1953 the congregation erected the new school in 1953, for a cost of $45,000.

In 1923 the congregation built the current parsonage next to the church."
