NOTES
Additional Information:The Walker's Block was erected in 1871 of ashlar. The rock faced stone (now visible only on the second story) contrasts with smooth window arches and the quoins marking the corners of the building. Incised details were incorporaed into the keystones and cornerposts of the window arches. Unfortunately, the window openings are covered with wood panels and the entire second story has been painted; the storefront has been extensively altered. The Walker Block is an example of the Italianate style, as constructed in Stevens Point in the early 1870's. Although altered, details remain on the secnod story which are characteristic of the Italianate style and which provide links with other early Italianate structures in the city. The Walker Block is considered a contributing building in the proposed Commercial District. The Walker Block is one of the older stone commercial blocks remaining on Main Street. It had a number of commercial tenants, perhaps most notable of which was the G.F. Andrae Dry Good Store in the 1880's. Andrae is best remembered for building the Opera House at 1124 Main Street.
