Additional Information: | THIS TWO-STORY COURSED, DRESSED CUT STONE HOUSE HAS A SLOPING ROOF INTERSECTED BY A STEEPLY PITCHED GABLED FORM AT THE FRONT AND CENTER OVER THE ENTRANCE BAY. STONE LINTELS OVER THE WINDOWS AND STONE SILLS ACCENT THE HOUSE. A LARGE EXTENSION ACROSS THE REAR OF THE HOUSE AND EXTERIOR SHUTTERS HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE HOUSE. THIS HOUSE IS ARCHITECTURALLY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF 19TH CENTURY STONE CONSTRUCTION IN DARLINGTON AND AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE GOTHIC INFLUENCED STYLE. THE STONE FOR THIS HOUSE WAS VERY LIKELY TAKEN FROM THE QUARRY ACROSS THE ROAD FROM THE HOUSE. Damaged by fire in 2016. A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. |
