| Additional Information: | Sanborn-Perris maps show that this two-story brick Twentieth Century Commercial Style building was built between 1911 and 1922 and early photos show that it was built originally as the Farmer's Bank. This bank closed during the Depression and since then the building has been occupied by the Viroqua City Hall. 1995- "Sanborn maps show that this two-story 10-foot-long x 35-foot-wide Twentieth Century Commercial Style building was built between 1911 and 1922 to house the Farmer's Bank (first story) and protessional offices (second story). The building has a poured concrete foundation, a full basement story, exterior walls that are clad in brick, and it is located on the northwest corner of N. Main and W. Decker streets and its rectilinear plan features a canted southeast corner. This location gives the building two principal facades, one facing south onto Decker Street and the other east onto Main Street, and historic photos show that the first stories of both facades originally cons1sted of a series of large, oblong one-light windows that were surmounted by multi-light transoms, but these have all now been replaced with ones of modern design, as have the original entrance doors. Otherwise, this building is in largely original condition and its second story window openings are especially notable because they mostly still retain their original sash, which is identical to but slightly smaller than those that were once found in the first story window openings. The Farmer's Bank lasted until the Depression. Since that time the building has been occupied by the Viroqua City Hall." - "USH 14 Transportation Study ", WisDOT ID #1646-07-00, Prepared by Timothy F Heggland (1995). |
