Additional Information: | Sanborn-Perris maps show that this one-story brick Commercial Vernacular bulding was built between 1900 and 1905 and that it housed a tobacco shop and billiard parlor in 1905. By 1911, the building housed a feed store, and in 1922 and 1933 it housed a printing shop associated with the Vernon County Censor newspaper. 1995- "Sanborn maps show that this one-story commercial vernacular form building was built between 1900 and 1905 and that it originally housed a tobacco shop and billiard parlor. The building 1s rectilinear in plan, measures 60-teet-deep x 20-teet-wide, and its main facade faces west and is clad in brick. This facade originally consisted of a single storefront that was surmounted by a very tall brick parapet having a simple corbelled brick cornice. This storefront has now been replaced with one of modern design and materials and it is sheltered by an equally modern asphalt shingle-clad pent roof, but the remainder of the facade is still intact. Sanborn maps show that by 1911 this build1ng was occupied by a feed store, and in 1922 and 1933 it was occupied by a printing shop (this printing shop was also the Vernon County censor newspaper office for at least part ot this period); it is now occupied by the Antique Cellar store. Although of very simple design and although the storefront has now been altered it is bel1eved that this building still qualifies as a contributing resource in the district." - "USH 14 Transportation Study ", WisDOT ID #1646-07-00, Prepared by Timothy F Heggland (1995). |
