Additional Information: | See HAER form. OAHP INVENTORY (08/04/1981): This elevator was owned and operated by Peter Olk from 1910 to 1930. It is doubtful that Mr. Olk constructed the elevator. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the structure was built by a Mr. Schlagel -- in any case the original owner could only have retained title for a few years prior to its sale to Mr. Olk. Mr. Olk sold grain, flour, seeds, potatos, lime, brick and cement during his tenure as owner. During the depression Mr. Olk went bankrupt and title passed to the bank until it was resold to Mr. Albert Schneider in 1934. The business is currently operated by Mr. Albert Schneider's son, Robert. The original structure consists of the elevator and the gabled warehouse and office to the northwest, these structures are timber framed, the metal cladding being added in 1934. The flat and shed roofed additions to the southeast were constructed in 1934 and 1957 respectively. The structure occupies a site measuring approximately 137' x 30' exclusive of the grain silos. |
