NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Around 1909 architect Wallace W. DeLong formed a company along with two builders, John H. Hegner and Walter Blake called the Modern Engineering Company. He designed this bridge and the company constructed it. While and after it was built, the City of Appleton and the company fought over whether the bridge was designed and built properly. Several years after it was built, Modern Engineering had to sue the city to get full payment for the construction. DeLong was an engineer and designed many bridges in the area but it is believed this was the largest.
