Additional Information:A LARGE CORNER STRUCTURE WHICH FORMERLY SERVED AS A HOTEL. PROMINENT WINDOW MOLDINGS AND MORE OF THE ORIGINAL 2/2 LIGHTS ARE FEATURES OF THE NOW-ALTERED STRUCTURE. THE SENATE HOTEL (LATER THE NIXON HOUSE) WAS ONE OF THREE HOTELS IN GRATIOT. (ONE OTHER, THE EXCHANGE HOUSE, MAIN STREET, 9/6, ALSO STILL STANDS) ACCORDING TO AN HISTORIC PHOTOGRAPH CONTAINED IN THE COUNTY BICENTENNIAL BOOK, THE HOTEL WAS CONSTRUCTED BY HENRY GILLE, WHO WAS LISTED IN THE COUNTY HISTORY AS A FARMER. (B,C) ORIGINALLY, THE HOTEL WAS CLAPBOARD SIDED AND FEATURED GABLED DORMERS.
