NOTES
Additional Information:Altered store front; plain projecting cornice; arched window with brick voussoirs; raised brick moulding. This building was the Ernest Kunert saloon in the 1880s. It became a bookbindery, then in the 1920s and 1920s, a shoe repair shop. This building has some historical interest as the location of several businesses. None are individually significant, but they contribute to the overall development of commerce in the Main Street Commercial Historic District. Built on the property of Ernest Kunert before 1884 and used for Kunert's Saloon in the 1880s, this simple brick three-bay building has been incorporated into the space of the adjacent commercial concern at 216 North 4th Street. The Kunert building has been altered by the addition of a contemporary styled storefront and a concrete block addition at the rear. The Ernest Kunert Building is a commercial vernacular building of the Italianate influence characterized by a plain cornice and raised brick window heads. Although this building is not architecturally significant, the Kunert building contributes to the historic architectural character of the Main Street Commercial Historic District.
