NOTES
Additional Information:Previously surveyed in 1986.

This is one of several buildings owned by Carl W. Schultz, but it is probably here where he operated his historic saloon business between c. 1866 and c. 1880. The building remained a saloon until prohibition. Then it was a grocery store and soda shop until at least 1930. Today it is a tavern.

This building has some historical interest as a long-time saloon, but it is not individually historically significant. It does contribute to the overall development of commerce in the Main Street Commercial Historic District.

Built for C.W. Schulz to house his saloon probably as early as the 1860s, this small frame commercial building has been completely covered by modern horizontal siding. The Schulz saloon has been altered further by the addition of modern windows on the upper facade as well as by the addition of a modern storefront. A gable roofed building with a false front, this building has a two-story addition at the rear.

The C.W. Schulz building has suffered extensive and unsympathetic alterations of its architectural character. Because of the extensive alteration of its historic character, this building does not contribute to the proposed Main Street Historic District.
