Additional Information: | A 'site file' titled "Memorial Park Historic District" exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. Full length flat roofed porch with gablet, short posts placed on concrete block bases and balustrade; shingled gable ends; large front gabled dormer; pedimented gables; south three sided bay window. This was the home of William Kelly, who rose from salesman to owner of a downtown clothing store when he lived here between c. 1913 and c. 1936. This house has some historical interest as the home of merchant William Kelly. Initial research indicates that his career is not significant, therefore, this house does not meet the criteria for local historical significance. In the proposed historic district for this area, however, this house would be considered contributing to the overall historical significance of the district under criterion B, in association with significant persons as a group. This building does not meet the criteria of the NRHP for architectural significance because of a lack of integrity. However, this building has sufficient architectural character to contribute to the proposed historic district. |
