Property Features
This building has some historical interest as the location of a number of retail businesses and a blacksmith shop. They are not individually historically significant, but contribute to the overall development of commerce and industry in the Main Street Commercial Historic District.
A complex of three buildings combined into one property, the two-story commercial block is characterized by a raised brick cornice with drip molding that units the center and north two-story buildings. The earlier building located in the center of the complex is characterized by a row of dentils along the lower edge of the cornice and plain rectangular windows with flat straight lintels. The late 1880s north building originally used as a farm implement store also has rectangular windows with straight flat lintels with corbelled ends. Used as a blacksmith shop during all of the 19th century, the one-story south building has been remodeled by the replacement of the south brick wall with concrete block. The complex has been altered further by the application of stucco to the north elevation, addition of metal replacement window frames on the second floor, and by the addition of a common completely remodeled storefront featuring vertical board siding and a shingled pent roof. Various one-story additions are located at the rear of the complex.
These commercial vernacular buildings are ornamented only by a raised brick cornice. Although these buildings are not architecturally significant, these buildings contribute to the historic architectural character of the proposed Main Street Historic District.
