NOTES
Additional Information:The present day bridge at this location was constructed in 1944. This bridge replaced many wooden and iron bridges that crossed Beaver Creek at this location since Sparta's beginning. Because of this property's recent construction, the present property does not meet either criterion A or B of the National Register of Historic Places. It also does not fall into the exception criteria for properties constructed during the 50 year non-historic period. This one-span steel beam bridge across Beaver Creek is supported on massive concrete piers and has decorative metal railings. The East Oak Street Bridge was constructed beginning in October of 1943 and completed in 1944. It was constructed by contractors Bigham and Dresser of Winona, Minnesota, at a cost of $45,000. The bridge opened for traffic in June 1944. This bridge was built to replace the previous bridge on the site that was damaged by the flood of Beaver Creek in May of 1943. The Oak Street Bridge does not meet the criteria for engineering significance because it is less than 50 years of age. steel beam or plate girder bridge
