Additional Information: | Map code is 0709-143-0112-5. "This imposing former sorority house sits like a walled French chateau, guarding a main entrance to the district. Law, Law and Potter, a noted architectural firm in Madison, designed this building. Its outstanding details include a steeply pitched hipped roof, tiny hipped roof dormers, half-timbered tower, stone corner quions, and an ogee-arched hoodmold over the tower entrance. The unusual design is a good example of Law, Law, and Potter's ability to design individually interesting buildings for their clients. Before the addition of Ellis Potter to the firm, brothers James and Edward Law designed both individually and with each other. Alpha Omicron Pi was founded at the University of Wisconsin in 1917. They occupied this building until the 1940's." City of Madison, The Langdon Street Historic District: A Walking Tour, 1986. dormitory |
