Additional Information: | Gable roof extends over open full length porch with short tapered post on shingled bases; bargeboards; exposed rafter ends; large front gabled dormer. This was the home of Walter Usher, an engineer, between 1927 and at least 1934. Initial research indicates that none of the occupants of this huose are historically significant. This bungalow style house is important as an example of the vernacular bungalow influenced by the Craftsman movement. Among the group of the best preserved bungalow house types remaining in Watertown, this house featuring exposed functional elements exhibits excellent integrity. The best extant examples of the Craftsman bungalow in the city are located at 118 No. 7th (47-27), and 202 So. Washington (55-12) while similar well-preserved examples are the bungalow at 823 Richards (34-35), 412 Hancock (28-10), and 1326 Center St. (25-37). |
