Additional Information: | DESCRIPTION This house is a two and one-half story Greek Revival buidling constructed of stone and coverd with stucco. The steeply-pitched gable roof has returned eaves. Windows are symmetrically placed on the facade and are combination of six-over-six light single-pane double-hung sashes. In the gable peaks are small round arch windows. The front entrace is covered by a plain flat overhang supported by two large brick posts. This overhang is a nodern addition. Also on the property is a gambrel roofed barn with board siding and a fieldstone foundation. ARCHITECTURAL/ENGINEERING SIGNIFICANCE Evan though the stone is covered up, the building is in good condition and is one of the largest stone constructed buildings in buildings in Mequon. Unusual are the round arch windows. The openings of the house are typical symmetical Greek Revival openings. Because of its size and detail, this buidling is significant for architecture in Mequon. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND This property was owned by N. Guildinger between 1857 and 1867 and by John Guidinger between 1876 and 1900. |
