Additional Information: | DESCRIPTION
This two-story fornt gable house has a moderatly steep gable roof, asbestos shingles siding, and many symmetrically placed six-over-six light double-hung sashes. The form and massing of this building suggest that it has a log or half-timber structural system. There is a small gable-roofed barn with board siding on the property and a number of sheds.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
This house and agriculture outbuilding were owned by William Vetter between 1862 and 1870 and by Joseph Post between 1876 and 1915. [a,b] The size and placement of this building along N. Wauwatosa Rd. suggest that this might have been a commercial building or an inn or perhaps a combination of the residence and commercial use. Further investigation should be undertaken to determine if this building may have been used for a commercial purpose, and if so, it may be significant for history.
2022 - The William Vetter house was constructed circa 1850 and is a two-story front gabled house that is devoid of ornamentation. The foundation is covered with sheet metal skirting and the exterior is clad in asbestos shingles siding. The roof has been covered with ribbed sheet metal but retains wood soffit and fascia in the narrow eaves. The windows are two-over-four hung wood sash windows in the principal elevation and six-over-six light hung wood sashes spaced evenly in the north and south elevations. The entrance is offset in the principal (west) elevation and is accessed by a poured concrete stoop with metal and rails on both sides. A one-story, rear gabled volume extends from the rear (east) elevation. In addition to the house, there is a small gabled barn with vertical wood board siding, at least one small outbuilding, and a poured concrete silo. A large barn and another medium size outbuilding are no longer extant.
