Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This simple two story house, constructed in an L-plan, is built of red brick. It has a gabled roof with overhanging eaves. Exterior ornamentation is limited to the relieving arches over the windows and the doorway with sidelights and a transom. Built in about 1860 for Jonas Trimblie, a shoemaker. The house was purchased in the mid 1870's by John Spencer. Spencer served as the city's fire chief in 1885-1886 and from 1892 to 1902. For many years he was city editor of the Janesville Gazette.
