| Additional Information: | This 3-story Chicago Commercial style building was constructed in 1919 as the Bonduel Mercantile Company. It is rectangular in plan with brick walls and a flat roof. The front elevation faces east and is symmetrical in plan. The façade is three bays wide with each bay separated by brick pilasters. The first stories of the two outer bays contain recessed entrances and a pair of single-pane shop windows; prism glass transoms are located above the shop windows and entrance. The first story of the center bay contains a bank of three single-pane shop windows with a single prism-glass transom above. The second and third stories of each bay each contain a central picture window flanked by 1-ove-1 windows (not quite true Chicago style windows as the flanking windows are not located within the same structural opening as the picture window). In all but the center bay, the 1-over-1 windows have been replaced by single-pane windows within the original window openings. Rectangular stone panels are located in the outer bays between the first and second and second and third stories. Additional stone detailing consists of inset squares at the upper corners of the window groupings, continuous stone sills below each window grouping, and rectangular panels at the top of each bay that read “BONDUEL / MERCANTILE CO. / 1919.” A small stone ornament projects from the top of the center bay. |
