NOTES
Additional Information:This building was constructed by Patrick Rogan in 1852. Rogan was an early settler in Watertown, having business interests in a farm and a sawmill. he was also responsible for much of the west side of the river development of Watertown, since he owned a considerable amount of land on the west side and developed it over the years. It is not known if Rogan had a business here or built the building and leased it.

Between c. 1885 and 1900 the Jarvis Harrison grocery was located here. It was the Walter Kramer bakery between 1907 and 1915 and the Hubert Pagel bakery between 1921 and at least 1930.

This building has historical interest because it was constructed by Patrick Rogan and was the location of several retail businesses. The building contributes to the overall development of commerce in the Main Street Commercial Historic District.

A simple vernacular brick block built in 1852, a three-story Patrick Rogan building features plain rectangular windows with flat stone lintels that have metal replacement windows on the second and third stories. The frieze windows on the simple raised brick entablature have been filled in (frieze windows similar to the building at 223 W. Main) and the brick molding has been removed. The cream brick exterior has been altered by the addition of paint and by stucco on the east elevation. The storefront has been completely remodeled in a contemporary manner.

A one-story brick and a one-story concrete block garage has been added at the rear of the Rogan building.

The Patrick Rogan building is a commercial vernacular building exhibiting no particular historic ornament. Although this building is not architecturally significant, the Rogan building contributes to the historic architectural character of the proposed Main Street Historic District.
