Additional Information: | Originally built as a dance hall but later moved to its current location and clad with crick. The building became a town hall in the 1870s or 1880s. It ceased being used as a town hall in 1969. 2002: It is believed that this frame building was constructed in 1848 as a dance hall addition for an establishment known as Hawk's Inn. In 1863, the building was moved a short distance to its current location where it was faced with brick and utilized as a general store, shoe store and post office. In the late 1870s, the Town of Delafield purchased the structure for use as a town hall. Previously, the town had conducted its activiites in a school house. In ca. 1900, the building was raised and a basement was constructed. This basement was used for meetings by various local organizations. In 1969, the Town of Delafield constructed a new building and the subject structure was converted into office space. It currently houses a gift store known as Lang Candles. |
