The Tenney-Lapham Neighborhood: A Walking Tour: "Like most architects who specialized in Period Revival styles, Frank Riley could move easily between them. One of the best illustrations of this can be seen in the two adjacent houses that Riley designed for Madison stockbroker Harry M. Warner at 1244 and 1250 Sherman avenue. Warner's first house at 1244 was built in 1922 and it is one of Riley's best interpretations of the Georgian Revival style. Here, Riley used many of the usual elements of style, such as red brick walls, a symmetrical five-bay facade, and denticulated cornices, while adding such elegant details as the small fanlights on the dormer windows and an elaborate wood fence that imitates originals found in Massachusetts, which Riley probably saw when he was a student at MIT."
