NOTES
Additional Information:Schlitz Globe in parapet.

2001- "This three-story, Queen Anne style, brick tavern was built as a Schlitz Brewery bar and features the Schlitz globe trademark within the parapet. Cut-stone, rock-face foundation walls extend up the first story and brick pilasters are carried through to the parapet. Window openings on the St. Paul Avenue facade have been infilled and presently contain small, modern, sliding windows. Windows on the 19th Street facade consist of one-over-one, double-hung sashes. A second-story corner turret features three one-over-one, double-hung sash windows and a denticulated cornice. The building's primary entrance appears to have been extended to the sidewalk.

In 1889, the lower two stories of this building were constructed; the third story and a one-story rear block were added a year later. Designed by locally notable architect Charles Kirchhoff and built by John Stabelfeldt, the building was erected at a cost of $5,000 by the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company to serve as a "store and dwelling." City of Milwaukee directories indicate the property was operated as a hotel and saloon by the Schlitz Brewing Company until 1943, after which followed a succession of private owners.
