Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. Barn (30/13) - separate record. Demolished ca. 2003. Update 2007- This two-story brick Italianate house was built c.1855 and sits on a hilltop lot in the interior of a city block. It is accessed by an unpaved alley that bisects the block. It is recorded as having been built for Dr. Richard Garrett. The house rests on a stone foundation, and the brick face of the entire house has been painted. The house is T-shaped with two rectangular sections that appear to have been constructed during separate phases. The earlier section forms the cross of the T and includes the main elevation of the house. It is sparsely decorated except for a steeply pitched gable over the main entrance and a portico with paired square columns and decorative brackets. A later addition forms the stem of the T and features paired decorative brackets under the eave of low-pitched hip roof. The addition also features a porch that appears to have been added at a later date. Standing seam metal roofing material covers both sections. Windows openings alternately feature concrete or brick sills, and nearly all original openings have segmental arch lintels. Window openings have been added to the upper story of the addition. A barn (AHI# 78609) that was associated with this house is no longer extant. |
