Additional Information:D.W. Ballou was a native of New England and worked for a newspaper in New York State before coming to Wisconsin in the 1850s. He was an assistant editor of the Green Bay Advocate between 1852-1854. In 1854 he came to Watertown and began the Watertown Democrat. He operated the paper until his death in 1876 and it was the most important weekly published during that time. He lived in this house during his years in Watertown.
