NOTES
Additional Information:.Originally surveyed 1996 resurveyed 2008 by ccrginc. "Built in 1922, the Brandt family has sold meats and groceries at this site for most of Mercer's history. The store's location near the railroad was an important factor in their success, since the railroad revolutionized small-town grocery stores. Instead of being forced to rely on local foods and produce, which might be scarce or of lesser quality, railroads guaranteed that foods could be safely and quickly shipped from distant suppliers. The Brandts were also prominent in local government, holding several township positions."
