Additional Information: | "Originally known as Art Schmidt's Muskellunge Camp, this resort is one of the oldest and largest on the west side of the Flowage. A former logger, Schmidt apparently saw the resort potential quite early, and was in operation by 1933. In a 1938 publication, his was the only resort listed on this side of the Flowage, and was described as being 17 miles from the Mercer depot. of course, that is likely to have been a rough 17 miles -- the road that later became County Highway FF was only put in as a fire lane in 1931. Schmidt's Musky Camp claimed to have room for an incredible 73 guests, including both rooms in the lodge building and cabins. Visitors to Schmidt's could use the American Plan of do their own cooking in one of the cabins, including cabin 6, which sits on an island screened by trees and is only connected to the mainland by a footbridge. By 1943, Schmidt became the only resort in the area with a telephone, possibly, a remnant of the Roddis Line's private phone system."
