Additional Information: | 3 ORIELS ACROSS FRONT. The building originally housed the M.A. Schmoyer and Co. dry goods store on the first floor and a community hall on the second floor. At the time this building was constructed, Edward Stark was associated with the Wisconsin Sugar Co. and the M.A. Schmoyer Co. He left Menomonee Falls in 1908 to begin a sugar beet processing plant in Los Angeles and sold the building to Dr. George Hoyt in 1910. By 1913, the building contained Greengo's Variety Store and E.B. Church's Undertaking Rooms on the first floor and the Colonial Hall on the second floor. Community meetings and events often occurred in this hall; the Masons also met here. At one time, the post office occupied the south store and in the mid-1920s, Boldt's Drug Store occupied the north store. Hoyt later served as a state senator and president of Citizen's State Bank as well as owning a drug store in the Fraser Block. Hoyt sold the Stark Block in the 40s. |
