Additional Information: | Demolished 6/1997 and removed from the National Register on 2/25/2004. RETURNED EAVES. FRIEZE WINDOWS. PEDIMENT OVER DOOR. CLAPBOARD ADDITION ON SIDE. There are six additional contributing resources to the Friederich Farmstead Historic District: a barn (WK 108/16), a barn/storage building (WK 107-12), a chicken house (WK 107/6), a hog barn (WK 107/5), a corn crib (WK 107/7), and a shed (WK 107/10). There is also one non-contributing resource - the Mader garage (WK 107/16). The barn was probably built by Nicholas Friederich. He emigrated from Prussia to Menomonee Township in 1849. He purchased 38 acres from Anton Reichnet in 1857. By 1880, Nicholas began to move toward dairy and sheep production to supplement his wheat crop. Nicholas transferred ownership of his farm to his son Jacob in 1892. By this time, the operation had expanded to 78 acres. Nicholas stayed on the farm after the transfer and died in 1902. The heirs of Jacob, who died in 1926, sold the farm to Paul Paulson in 1939. That same year, Paulson an agent of the Mader family, transferred the farm to the Health More Dairy Farms, Inc. A one story concrete block milk house was added to the barn on the northwest corner after 1940. George and Gustave Mader obtained the title to the property in 1945 and Katherine Mader gained control in 1950. The barn/storage building, chicken house, hog barn, corn crib and shed were probably erected by Jacob Friederich between 1892 and 1926. |
