Additional Information: | ROUND WINDOW IN GABLEENCLOSED PORCH IN ELL W/ BALCONY ABOVE
"This vernacular, two-story, gabled-ell residence was constructed in the circa 1870s; a one-story, shed-roof addition extends from the rear of the dwelling. Clapboard siding covers the walls. A large, brick, exterior chimney is off-centered on both the east and west elevations. The multiple-gable roof is sheathed with asphalt shingles, and a simple wooden frieze outlines the eaves. The north (primary) facade consists of two bays. The east bay is composed of a gabled end wall and features a large, multiple-pane, modern window centered on the first floor, while a small, one-over-one, double-hung sash is directly above the second floor. The west bay consists of a one-story, shed-roof, screened-in porch with a solid, board-and-batten railing. A small terrace, outlined by a modern, square balustrade, is situated on the porch roof. The residence's east facade features a projecting, polygonal bay window at the north corner; immediately adjacent to the south is an enclosed, shed-roof porch. In addition to the one-story extensive at the rear, a modern, wooden deck is attached to the west half to the south facade. Throughout, fenestration largely consists of modern, one-over-one, double-hung sash examples. Directly west of the residence is a hipped-roof garage sheathed with board-and-batten siding; a paneled, wooden door spans the length of the north (primary) facade. Southwest of the garage is a side-gabled shed. Its walls are constructed of drop siding, and the asphalt-shingled roof includes a centered dormer on the north side.
The earliest known owner of this property was A. Held, who farmed a 73-acre plot in 1873. By 1891, Harry Heldt had assumed ownership. Whether the two individuals were related (despite the slight difference in name spelling) is unknown, as historical sources provide no biographical information. In any case, Alfred Triller had purchased the owner by 1930, and he maintained ownership through at least 1949. Research uncovered no additional information concerning the Triller family, although it is presumed that the Alfred Triller identified as the owner of the nearby farmstead at N96 W16712 County Line Road/CTH Q from the 1910s until 1949 is the same person who held title to the subject property.
This residence was originally surveyed in 1979 and re-surveyed in 1984. Since that time, several alterations have been made. These include the reconstruction of the front porch, removal of a circular window in the north gabled end wall, replacement of a large, first-floor window on the same wall and addition of a new railing on the front porch's roof." |
