Additional Information: | The middle third of a 19th century one story brick commercial block, this store retains the entrance framing cast iron columns and street level cornice of the original structure. A terra-cotta cornice that includes bands of a stylized leaf design, a classical bead and tongue design and a circular medallion design ties the three identical store fronts together into one brick block. This building is associated with the commercial development of the community. Dr. Albert A. Hayden, who came from St. Louis to Shullsburg in 1877 to set up a medical practice, opened up his office and drug store in about 1880 and continued his practice until 1918. He practiced first in the Stephens Block until 1886. The drug store business was continued;it is now Webster T.V. |
