NOTES
Additional Information:Architectural Statement: Bracketed metal cornice; arched window openings now with smaller rectangular windows; first story wood and plate glass; rear has a one story addition; west part not as deep as east; c. 1908 photo shows 4/4 windows in front, two 9-pane picture windows and one shingle pane window (A). Historic Uses: Saloon and dwelling (2nd story), c. 1885, 1892, 1898, 1904, 1912 (B0; soft drinks, c. 1918 (B); Carr's Jewelry Store, c. 1977 (C); William and F.C. Daniels Harness Shop, 1921-1948-? (D). Historical Background: William Daniels began a harness shop c. 1900 and moved to this building in 1922 (D,E,F). He added a 32' x 35' work room in the back when he moved in (F). The building was built by Louis Schultz c. 1873 (D). Only the east part (three bays) was built originally (G,B) but by 1898 the west section was built (B). The 1890 Directory lists a Louis Schultz as a brewer at the Reedsburg Brewery. In 1910 a Louis Schultz built east of this building on Main Street (SK9/2, 139 Main Street). In an 1880 book that names the first brick buildings in Reedsburg, (built in the early 1870s), Louis Schultz's name is not mentioned (I). Since Sanborn-Perris Maps (1885) show the building as brick veneer, it may have been bricked later; or someone other than Schultz built it. It looks brick in a c. 1878 photo (D).
