NOTES
Additional Information:25-29 West Davenport Street Willis Livesey-Joseph Hartley Building
This two-story, brick, twentieth century commercial vernacular building was erected for two
owners in 1929 (City of Rhinelander tax rolls; 1929 Sanborn Map of Rhinelander). The building
features a stone belt-course beneath the second-story windows, decorative stone blocks in the
brick window surround and in the brick-soldier cornice, and a stone coping. The east half was
built for Willis Livesey to house his jewelry store, while the west half was built for Joseph
Hartley. Livesey's jewelry business was in the building until at least 1930. He was followed by
jeweler Frank Freeman (at least 1941 until at least 1946), and by the current tenant, Emil Ebert,
circa 1950. The west half housed Livingston's Style Shop in 1930, the Carol-ine Beauty Shop
from at least 1936 until at least 1956, and the Big Jo Bakery from at least 1958 until at least 1965
(Rhinelander City Directories).
