Additional Information: | Description: Situated on approximately 2.0 acres, the St. James Catholic Church is distinguished by a coursed stone construction with quoins. Multi-paned window sashes are set within pointed arch openings at the side elevation and a round arched opening at the front. At the open gabled end is an entrance with a round arched door ornamented with stone voussoirs. The front tower has crenellations and corner buttresses. The main body of the church was constructed in 1848, the tower was added in 1885, and a wood steeple was replaced by stone battlements in the 1930s. A 1941 two-story frame rear addition is attached to the west side of the church. [A]. Another map code for this building is 108/15, found on the Engineer's Map of Menomonee Falls. Architectural/Engineering Significance: The St. James Rectory is not a significant example of the Tudor Revival style. Built in 1941 to replace an earlier rectory, St. James Rectory is physically attached to the west side of St. James Catholic Church. |
