Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This house is the boyhood home of Roy Chapman Andrews, an explorer for the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. He began his career by sweeping floors at the museum in 1906. By 1934 he had become the museum's director. Andrews is famed for the dramatic expeditions he led to the Gobi Desert of Mongolia from 1922 to 1930. Andrews adventurous experiences and narrow escapes are said to have inspired Steven Spielberg's movie character "Indiana Jones."
