NOTES
Additional Information:This house was first surveyed in 1977. It was resurveyed in 2021, by which time earlier, possibly original windows had been altered on the main facade and elsewhere. It is also possible that the front entrance vestibule and the Mansard roof are later additions. The house appears on the 1891 Plat Map of Orfordville. 2021: This two-story-tall Second Empire Style house rests on a cut stone foundation, its walls are clad in cream brick, and they are sheltered by the house’s Mansard roof. The house has a two-story-tall rectilinear plan main block, and a one-story-tall rear ell is attached to the house’s rear elevation, giving the house a T-plan. The main façade faces Beloit St., and it is symmetrical in design and three-bayswide. The two outer bays consist of two-story-tall three-sided polygonal bays, each side of which contains a segmental-arched window opening, and the same is true of the second story of each bay as well. The main entrance to the house is placed in the first story of the center bay and it is set into a projecting three-sided entrance vestibule that may or may not be original to the house. The façade is then crowned by the house’s Mansard roof, which also may or may not be original. Some of the house’s segmental-arched window openings still retain their original two-over-two-light windows but others have been replaced with modern one-over-on-light ones. Plat maps show that the house was already in existence by 1891, at which time it was owned by K. B. Thoen, and it was probably built ca.1875.
