NOTES
Additional Information:The New Doty Manufacturing Company Warehouse and Machine Shop, built c.1900, is a two-story building with one-story side wings, resting on a concrete slab foundation and covered by a front gable roof.(1) The first-story is of concrete block construction and the second story is clad in vertical wood boards and corrugated metal. A large, metal garage door with a concrete ramp is centered on the north (front) facade. To the left (east) of the garage door is a metal entrance door. Windows are only located on the first story wings and feature fixed 20 panes of glass, with a limestone lintel and topped with a simple brick arch.

The warehouse is the only remaining structure of what was the New Doty Manufacturing Company. Founded in 1853 as the Pixley, Kimball, & Olson general machine shop, the property was purchased by the Richardson Brothers in 1865.(2) In 1868 the Richardson Brothers purchased Doty & Brother and began to produce Doty Washing Machines under the name the Doty Manufacturing Company. In 1874 they diversified their products and began to make punching and shearing machines, grain drills, and windmills. They reorganized under the name the New Doty Manufacturing Company in 1884 and operated at the site until closing in 1935.(3) The warehouse is the only remaining building of what was once a large industrial complex and is currently used by the Schlueter Company, which operates out of a building located across North Main Street.
