NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. 2007- This distinctive Spanish Colonial style theater, designed by prolific firm of Rapp and Rapp, operated as a theater from the year it opened in 1929 until the late 1970s when it was converted for use as the Madison Civic Center. When the Overture Center for the Arts was planned for this block of State St., a compromise was reached that incorporated the facade of Rapp and Rapp's design into the new arts center. Construction on the Overture began in 2004 and was completed in 2006. Today, Rapp and Rapp's facade frames the entrance to the new Capitol Theater within the Overture Center.
