Additional Information: | A 'site file' titled "Dalton Historic District" exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. THIS ITALIANATE STYLE-INFLUENCED GABLE ELL FORM FARMHOUSE AND ITS ASSOCIATED GABLE-ROOFED STONE AND VERTICAL BOARD DAIRY BARN ARE BOTH CURRENTLY VACANT AND UNUSED AND, ALTHOUGH STILL LARGELY INTACT, ARE IN DETERIORATING CONDITION. THESE RESOURCES WERE ORIGINALLY SURVEYED IN 1981 AND WERE RESURVEYED IN 2004 AS PART OF THE SEC. 106 SURVEY OF STH 44 (WISDOT # 6030-03-00/01/2002). THIS HOUSE WAS BUILT IN 1878 FOR JOHN & JEANNETE DALTON, WHO WERE AMONG THE EARLIEST AND MOST SUCCESSFUL FARMERS IN THE SECTION. DALTON DIED IN 1898, BY WHICH TIME HIS FARMS STRADDLED BOTH SIDES OF STH 44 AND TOTALED 524 ACRES. |
