| Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. 2023: Built in 1912, the Mary Jane and August Graff house is a two-and-one-half-story Queen Anne residence with an irregular plan, intersecting gable roof, and brick and stucco cladding. The front (east) facade features a curved porch with concrete-block supports and stucco balustrade that wraps around the side (north) elevation. The facade also has an original, fixed glass picture window and a leaded glass window. The primary entrance features the original wood door flanked by sidelights. An enclosed second-story porch is clad in stucco with cornice returns and fixed ribbon windows. At the intersection of the front facade and side (north) elevation is a three-story turret with a conical roof and second-story porch with wood railings. This side also features another fixed picture window within the porch and a stucco-clad gable end. The opposite side (south) elevation has an enclosed porch, a projecting bay window, and a secondary entrance on the ground level. The rear (west) elevation has multiple one-over-one, double-hung windows with stone sills and lintels that are consistent with the remaining windows on the rest of the house. All windows have been replaced. In 1992 the south elevation entry was enclosed, and the second-story porch railings were added. In 2000 the front porch railing was installed based on original blueprints. A detached garage is set back at the rear of the property. 1997: "Built in 1911, this Queen Anne house overlooks the Wisconsin River. it was constructed by Dresden Brothers for August Graff, a retired farmer from west of the village. It has oak woodwork and oak and maple floors. Alice Graff, daughter of August, was a librarian in Tripp Memorial Library for 40 years." The Graff's had two daughters, Edna and Alice. The property was purchased by James Kirner and converted to a bed and breakfast. Thermopane windows were installed throughout the house, a rear entry porch was converted to a room and second floor porch railings were added in 1992. The Kaupas' purchased the property in 1998. The front porch railings were added in 2000 because they were shown on the original blueprints but never installed. The roofing was replaced in 2008. |
