Additional Information: | 2015- This two-and-one-half-story, brick, German Renaissance Revival style building features a stepped gable with limestone coping and modest stone decorative accents. The primary (south) facade has a modern storefront, as well as a projecting bay on the second level. Fenestration consists of modern windows. The subject building was built circa 1912 and the earliest known occupant was confectioner William J. Hackett. Throughout its history, the building featured a number of different businesses including a restaurant, a shoe repair business, clothes cleaners, and a jeweler. -"IH-94/USH 41/WIS 341 Survey," WisDOT ID #1080-27-01, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd. (McQuillen) (2015). **2020 - Resurveyed for I-94 project 1060-27-04. No significant changes apparent. ORIEL ON 2ND FLR,GERMAN INFLUENCE Previously surveyed in 1980 as SEDER JEWELERS / TOUCH OF GENIUS HAIR FASHIONS. Resurveyed in 2007, and an new photograph was submitted. The building is not cited in the 1910-11 directory, nor on the 1910 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map of West Allis. However it is cited in the 1916 City Directory, with Wm. J. Hackett, Confectionery, John Hackett, Mrs. Maria McCoy. Throughout its history, the building featured a number of different businesses including a restaurant, a shoe repair business, clothes cleaners, and a jeweler. |
